The Ajmer Sharif Dargah
This is undoubtedly the most popular place to visit in Ajmer. It has both historical as well as religious significance. It is the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and was raised by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The shrine remains drenched into religious hues all day long and is visited by people from all over the world.
Taragarh Fort
Taragarh Fort was constructed in 1354 to protect the city of Ajmer. It was home to the Chauhan dynasty rulers like Prithviraj Chauhan. The fort has a great historical importance and remains one of the oldest forts in India. The fort has three gateways - Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza and Gagudi ki Phatak. Here you can find some huge water reservoirs which used to provide water to residents during those days.
Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda
Standing on the slope of the Taragarh hill, Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda was commissioned by Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak. Its construction work was completed in 1199 CE followed by some beautification work done by Iltutmish of Delhi in 1213 CE. The monument has beautiful calligraphy on the walls and intricately designed columns on the roof. Though the monument is in ruins today, it never fails to catch the attention of those visiting Ajmer.
Abkari Fort and Museum
Abkari Fort and Museum rests in the very heart of the city. It was once the residence of the son of the emperor Akbar. Visitors can see numerous Mughal and Rajput relics here apart from ancient armour and scriptures. Unlike other Mughal monuments, it is not built on a hill but is located right in the middle of the city.
Anasagar Lake
This is a man-made lake constructed by the Maharaja Anaji of Ajmer. The lake enjoys proximity with Daulat Bagh, a beautifully manicured garden laid by Emperor Jahangir. People visit this lake to spend some moments of peace and to explore the history of the Mughals.
