Ward's Lake is another famous attraction of the place. Named after Sir William Ward, the then, Chief Commissioner of Assam, it is a beautiful manmade lake. Capt. Williamson Sangma State Museum is the perfect choice for those interested in learning about the ethnic tribal culture and tradition. The museum offers an insight to the lifestyle of the people. Spread Eagle Falls is another famous attraction in Shillong, located within the Shillong Cantonment. It is a sparkling waterfall that looks like an eagle with wings spread, hence the name. The waterfall is a treat to the eyes with its soothing and calm nature.

Best time to Visit
The best time to visit Shillong is between September to May. The weather is pleasant during these months and rains are relatively less. June to August mark the monsoon season and sees heavy rainfall, which might make touring around a bit difficult. However, the beauty in monsoons is at its peak and waterfalls come to life, especially during this season.

By Air: Shillong doesn't have an airport within the city, and the nearest airport to the hill station is the Umroi Airport near Barapani. The nearest major airport that is well-connected with multiple cities across India is in Guwahati.

By Train: The closest railway station from Shillong is in Guwahati, which is connected to New Delhi and other major cities across the country.

By Road: You can opt for a bus ride from Guwahati to Shillong. Several govt. as well as private buses run on a regular basis. You can also take a taxi and enjoy the view.
