Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is a world heritage site that houses two thirds of the world's exotic one horned rhinoceros. The National Park also boasts of the highest density of tigers among the protected areas in the world. The Park was declared as a Tiger Reserve in the year 2006. A renowned wildlife hub spread across the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam, Kaziranga is visited by wildlife enthusiasts from all parts of the world.

Attractions

The Park is spread across an area of 430 square kilometre flourishing with elephant-grass meadows, marshy lagoons and thick forest cover.

Apart from its remarkable population of one-horned rhinoceros, the park also acts home to elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Tiger population in the Kaziranga National park is also impressive which earned it the title of Tiger Reserve in 2006. Although, sighting tigers are difficult because of the tall grasses that offer excellent camouflage, their presence can be felt everywhere.

Bird species in this park offer a jaw dropping experience to the bird lovers. With a designated Bird Area assigned by BirdLife International to preserve avifaunal species, one can spot white-fronted goose, ferruginous duck and Baer's pochard duck apart from migratory birds like Asian Openbill stork here.

The National park has been divided into four major zones:

• Mihimukh in Central Range at Kohora
• Bagori in Western Range at Bagori
• Agaratoli in Eastern Range at Agaratoli
• Ghorakati in Burapahar Range at Ghorakhati

Best Time to Visit
Kaziranga Park remains closed between 01 May and 31 Oct for the visitors every year. Thus, travellers must visit here from November to April. The summers (April and May) here are dry and windy, and is the best time to spot wild animals as they flock around the water bodies to quench their thirst. Winter months from November to February are great to relish beautiful sights of the wild amidst mind and pleasant climate. Chances of seeing rhinos increase during winters as the grass burn off, thus, clearing the view.

• Morning: 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM
• Afternoon: 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM

Elephant Safari Timings

• Morning- 05:30 / 06:30
• Morning- 06:30 / 07:30
