A renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sunderban National Park is famed as the largest delta in the world. Spread over an area of 4262 square kms in the southern part of West Bengal, Sunderban has been a wildlife sanctuary since 1966, and was also announced as the core area of Sunderbans Tiger Reserve in the year 1973. Nature and Wildlife devotees seeking an escape from the glitz and glamour of the worldly pleasures, find solace here. The forest has been adorned with countless Sundari trees which make it a heavenly residence for wild animals.

The major attraction of Sunderban National Park is the Royal Bengal Tiger which draws travelers from all over the world. Sunderban houses around 400 of the Royal Bengal Tigers, making this the largest single population of tigers on earth. Despite their reputation as man-eaters, the tigers are extremely difficult to spot, but the thrill of trying to track one down is hard to overstate. The national park is also home to a variety of other wildlife that includes jungle fowl, giant lizards, spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles etc. The park provides shelter to some endangered species as well which include Leopard, Indian Rhinoceros, Javan Rhinoceros, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer and Water Buffalo.

To truly experience the thrill of adventure and serenity of Sunderbans, you need to go deep into the swamps on a three or four day boat trip. Dipping into the mangrove forests on a day trip is also an amazing way to explore the beauty of this place.

Best Time to Visit Sunderban National Park
The best time to explore the magnificent beauty and wilderness of this national park is winters between December and February. Some travellers also prefer visiting the park from September to March as well to spend leisure time eyeing the migratory birds.

How to Reach Sunderban National Park
By Air: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport at Kolkata is only 112 km away from the National Park.

By Rail: Regular trains run between Canning and Sealdah. Travellers can further take van service to reach Godhkhali Jetty from where boat journey is available to the Sundarbans.

By Road: A well-laid network of roadways links Sunderbans to Kolkata. Public transportation is available in abundance.
