A small town in Sikkim, Yuksom is known for its gorgeous landscape and snow capped mountains. Famed as the "gateway to Kangchendzongha", Yuksom is known for its monasteries and Buddhist heritage. Originally the ancient capital of Sikkim, Yuksom symbolically represents "the third eye of Sikkim", and has a religious connection attached to it. This small, but beautiful village doesn't look like a growing centre of urbanisation, yet it has some decent facilities like hotels, restaurants, tour agencies etc. Although it's a frequently visited tourist destination in Sikkim, it is green, charming and unspoilt.

Dubdi Monastery situated at the height of 2100 meters on the top of a hill makes for a perfect hiking experience. The hiking trail to the monastery starts from a government dispensary in front of the Limboo Homestay. Dotted by several water driven prayer wheels inside the small huts, the monastery is the perfect picturesque destination.
Kathog Lake is another must visit destination when in Yuksom. Although small in size, the lake is considered as sacred among the locals. It is believed that the great lama sprinkled the holy water from this lake on the coronation throne of Norbugang during the crowing ceremony.
Tashi Tenka was initially a royal complex that sat on a ridge to the south of the town. This must visit spot is now just a stone remain that offers a superb view. To get here, walk around five minutes towards Pelling and take the long stairway up through a 'heritage garden' near the school football pitch for another 10 minutes.
Next in the line of popular attractions is the Mani Hall. Residing right in the village centre, this beautiful creation is a glass walled temple like building housing 18 over-sized prayer wheels in two closed packed rows. Each prayer wheel is made of embossed, part glided copper which are so heavy that tuning them will involve a proper workout.
