Gir National Park

Attracting travelers from around the world, Gir National park is the abode of Asiatic Lions. Once almost hunted in extinction and listed as endangered, the numbers of Asiatic lions have now been recovered because of the conservation efforts. Comprising of 1412 sq.km of deciduous forest, the Park is scattered with semi-evergreen and evergreen flora, acacia, scrub jungle, grasslands and rocky hills. The sanctuary also houses large water bodies like the Kamleshwar Dam that are good for marsh crocodiles, reptiles and birds.

The Kamakhya temple situated atop the Nilachal hill is the most popular tourist attraction in Guwahati. Besides Kamakhya, there are several other famous Hindu temples including the Umananda Temple, Navagraha Temple and Basistha Temple. Hajo is also an important pilgrim center for Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists.

The wildlife enthusiasts can visit the Kaziranga National Park that houses various wild species including tigers, elephants, leopards and panthers. The park is also home to one-horned rhinos. Declared as a world heritage site, you can plan your tour between November and April, as these are the months, the park is open for tourists. Manas National Park is another world heritage site of Guwahati. Famously referred to as the only Tiger Reserve in Assam, the park is home to various species including elephants, bison, langur, sambar, chital, rhinos and buffalos.

Guwahati, with its humid subtropical climate, offers an average annual temperature of 24°C to an extreme of 40°C. Guwahati has a good network of hills surrounding it as well, which further contributes in the subtropical topography of the region.

By Rail - Guwahati Railway Station operates regular trains from different parts of India to Guwahati. This includes the Rajdhani Express, Northeast Express and Brahmaputra Mail from the capital city of New Delhi, Bangalore Express from Bangalore, Kamrup Express from Kolkata and Dadar Express from Mumbai.

By Road - The nearby states of Guwahati like West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar offer connectivity through a good network of national highways running across them.
